Shrek (2001)

Shrek (2001) is a computer-animated fantasy-comedy film by DreamWorks Pictures that parodies classic fairy tales. Plot Overview • The Swamp Invasion: Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers), a reclusive and grumpy green ogre, has his peaceful swamp overrun by banished fairy-tale creatures. The creatures were exiled by the short, narcissistic Lord Farquaad (voiced by John Lithgow). • The Deal: Shrek sets out to confront Farquaad to get his swamp back, accompanied by an annoying, fast-talking sidekick named Donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy). Farquaad agrees to clear the swamp only if Shrek rescues Princess Fiona (voiced by Cameron Diaz) from a tall, lava-surrounded castle guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. • The Rescue: Shrek and Donkey pull off the rescue, and on the journey back, Shrek and Fiona begin to fall in love. • The Secret: Fiona carries a magical curse: every night at sunset, she transforms into an ogress. Shrek overhears a misunderstanding, delivers her to Farquaad for their wedding, and returns home heartbroken. • The Ending: Donkey helps Shrek realize the truth, and they crash the wedding just as the sun sets and Fiona's ogress form is revealed. The dragon devours Farquaad, Shrek and Fiona share true love's first kiss, and Fiona permanently remains an ogre in her true form as they marry.
